Introduction

The BMGA is a non-profit organization that strives to improve the conditions and enjoyment of golf at the Braintree Municipal Golf Course to include sponsoring events and tournaments at the course on a weekly basis.  All BMGA members receive a USGA handicap via the Massachusetts Golf Association (MGA) which entitles a golfer to compete in all BMGA Tournaments and other publicly offered amateur tournaments throughout the United States.

Handicap Services

An initial handicap is assigned after 5 scorecards have been submitted to the Association’s Handicap Chairman or through the MGA GHIN Handicap System.  Scores can be posted via the Internet, as well as through the BMGA computer system, located within the course clubhouse.

Tournaments

All BMGA members are eligible and invited to participate in BMGA tournaments which are scheduled every weekend day and holiday from April through October.  Additionally, tournaments are run on Wednesday mornings throughout the golfing season.  Tournament information and a schedule of events are available in the Pro Shop, on our association bulletin board in the clubhouse, and on the Association’s website.  Sign-up sheets for all tournaments are located in the Pro Shop.  Tournament entry fees are generally $5 - $8 with tournament prizes awarded in the form of chits redeemable for merchandise in the Pro Shop.  To be eligible to participate in the Club Championship, BMGA members must participate in five  BMGA sponsored tournaments.

Thursday Night League

The BMGA sponsors a men’s league for members on Thursdays from May to September.  League dues are $25 per half and the format for the league changes from year to year.  There is an award banquet at the end of the season.  More information about the league can be found on the BMGA bulletin board at the golf course or on the Association’s website.  Sign up for the league usually starts in April and must be done in person.

Meetings & Association Governance

BMGA member meetings are held three times a year at the clubhouse during the evening.  Notification of meetings is posted in advance on the association bulletin board, the clubhouse, and on our website.  Every member who attends is welcome to participate in the discussion and vote on any motion.  Attendance is voluntary, however, it is suggested that members attend to stay informed of upcoming events and rules changes that may affect play at the course.  The on-going operation of the Association is maintained by various elected officers serving 2 year terms.
